As everyone knows, Jeff Wall is one of these photographers that mantains a strong relation with painting. We could say that he kind of treats the frame as it were a canvas, though in his interviews he explains how he failed in the purpose of not being a photographer. He is one.
I was thinkin of him as a modern Giorgione. As the venetian artist, Wall seem to produce works that are particulatly difficult to analyze,even though i don't find it strictly necessary, and i could imagine him live in the same era,work exclusively for a private collector that jealaously never quits looking at his "own" photography.
I know his references mostly come from painting of the 19th century but i'd like to know what he thinks about Giorgione and the way he depicts the human being and his relation with nature.

Off course you are supposed to go on,to evolve,but I don't think you should do that because the mainstream starts appreciating your stuff. off course it influences you. This is the never-ending circle of fashion,as Simmel wrote. Upper class starts moving on when lower classes start to "copy their style".
I think it shouldn't be the case for a "creator".For sure everyone should evolve but not in these terms.
Unless you have a very snobbish way to look at the world and this is more important to you than what you love. Then the work of Scott would loose strenght and wouldn't look the same for me .

Tonight I read an article by F. Jonquet,whose "conversations with Gilbert & George"(Phaidon) is a must, on Goldin's work. The critic points out the what differs her work from Arbus' s one. "There is no dread or distancing in her work,no hint of the human monstruosity that is Arbus's subtext".
I do think the distance between Arbus and the people she took pictures of ledead her to the ultimate gesture,sucide. Arbus either erased it or could not erase that distance. I don't think she did. But for sure she suffered because of that distance.
Goldin chosed to be "one of them" and we respect the choice she had the possibility to make. But if I were sure this choice was not aware,if I knew this heroism didn't hide the awarness of the "opposite solution",her work wouldn't be the same for me.

Ho appena finito di leggere un articolo su "lampada annuale", un' opera di Alighiero e Boetti che mi è capitato di vedere qualche tempo fa al Palais de tokio. "Lampada annuale" consiste in un box nero con all'interno un bulbo elettrico che, l'artista ci assicura, si accendera' in un non precisato periodo,ma una volta all'anno, per undici secondi;
Cristophe Kihm espone chiaramente e efficacemente la sua lettura dell'opera,sottolineando tra le altre cose che questa produce una potenzialita' che "non puo',non deve essere dimostrata". Sono d'accordo,ma perche' non accennare nemmeno un'attimo allo shock,alla vertigine che provera' colui che sara' presente,a meno che cio' non avvenga nella notte,nel momento dell'accensione? Non e' l'aspetto piu' importante dell'opera? Sono d'accordo. In ogni caso è un momento dell'opera a cui il critico non accenna. Per il fruitore è legittimo diffidare dell'artista e in quel momento tutte le sue angosce,la sua vulnerabilita' di fronte a una tale opera verrebbero assopite. As far as I'm concerned my upbringing in the countryside and my love for Nyc help/oblige me to have a certain view of the city. Automatically,everytime I look out my window (as you can see,it looks like looking midtown from brooklyn,at least i remember it like that) a sort of nostalgia/sadness overwhelms me. Nostalgia not for the few months I spent in Nyc(even that though),nostalgia for "something-that-happened-in-NYC",thus history, and something that happened to me,my childhood. The funny thing is that right now things are opposed. I live in the center of the city and outside the window i see the periphery.

J'ai rarement vu un film d'une telle finesse, aussi bien qu'on est accotoumé a des experiences pareilles dans le cinema de Renoir. Encore plus eclatante me parait la situation dans laquelle une pellicule sur le theme de la guerre,et d'une telle élégance, a été tourné. Seulement quelques annés avant les pires inhumanites produites par l homme(peut être là je me trompe. finalment les inhumanites sont toutes pareilles. Il n'y a pas des pires et des meilleures). Sùrement cela donne au film une aura spéciale.
Du rest,en 1939, Renoir nous offre dans "La regle du jeu" une description symbolique,mais enfin pas trop,de un degré de la société.

I was looking looking up the net in search of one of the last Marc Jacobs campaigns.It' s some girl in front of a bench or something similar and i guess it's for me the best campaign shooted by Teller. Off course together with the pics of Eggleston+Rampling. Instead i found this one wich reminds me of a pic he took of Hans Ulrich Obrist. Off course i cant find it either.
Teller+Jacobs,one of the best things happened to the fashion world.
I personally think they aim to redefine the position of the star in the viewer eyes. They don't need to change the way we look at them in the big screen. Cinema and reality.
They need to turn upside down some other "reality",the one offered by tv. Nobody says that we need to spend hours in front of it to be,to say the least,influenced. For instance, it s enough to see the news and to react to the editing of the images of a concert,.Teller,following the canons of certain photography(and here i have to ask God to please bless america),thus a certain vision of the world,produces analogies.index and not icon.

I'd like to clarify certain aspects of my short posts on jazz.
First of all I'm discovering new things everyday,i'm reading about different opinions and approaches to the issue.I'm still "shaping"(can i say that?) my idea
Second,what I'm trying to do is to find out whether or not jazz is a black experience(sure it is),how it develops and what kind of relation the protagonists of the "new thing" era established with their roots back to africa and with their current situation in the Usa back to the '60s. I'm trying to find out whether and how we shouldnt reduce the topic to an europocentric approach as many critics seem to have done in the past. It s not a matter of "purity" of a culture,a concept wich seems to me pretty dated. The few books i read on the subject convinced me to see a culture "as a process more than a result". Cultures tath don't change die. experiences that don't cross other experiences are up to be forgotten. It's just a way to position different experiences and to give them the real importance.

Il mio film preferito è "Persona",in cui a mio parere il dramma della protagonista ricorda il dramma di un personaggio della letteratura italiana,Marta,"l'esclusa" del romanzo pirandelliano.

I watched "Drugstore cowboy" by Gus Van Sant. I liked it a lot,i definitely consider it to the best movie by him. Amazing photography,very good actors,Borroughs that (almost) plays Borroughs
Still i kind of felt something was missing. i' m never completely satisified by the way he depicts characters,thus the human being and his actions. It's their role in the movie.
Narrative is far too important in a cinema where,as Korinne and Soderbergh,from Mekas to Gallo, pure images,poetry is what really counts. The story is already there

Lo "stile reale" determino' il superamento del barocco italiano,nonche' l'affermazione del classicismo francese. Questo fu ancheuno degli ultimi lavori di Perrault e il barocco trionfo' di nuovo a Versailles.(Dif)facile capire che Luigi XIV non ne era rimasto soddisfatto.

I've done a lot of things that were natural size.If i paint a picture of marble,i want it ot be natural size. I've had this faithfulness to the subject. This idea doesn't go through all of my work but there is an underlying direction to my work that is rooted in factual dimensions and statisics. My interest in facts is crucial to my work. Not that you'll find factual information in my work(...)...An artist has to kind of dig and not rely on things he's searching for,but things that are already there.

Intorno al 1640 Rembrandt dipinse la celebre "Ronda di notte". Talmente celebre da rappresentare l'inizio dell' in-successo del pittore.
Infatti, in sintonia con le peculiarita' dello stile barocco, Rembrandt si guardo' bene dal rappresentare meccanicamente e in maniera simile ogni personaggio. Forti luci si contappongono a forti ombre. Il barocco,insomma.
Peccato che i committenti dell'opera,nonche' soggetti del dipinto,non rimasero,ed è (dif)facile immaginare il perche',soddisfatti.

I just finished watching "Derrida"-Amy Ziering Kofman et Kirby Dick-,a documentary on an author that,since i dont have the tools to, i ve never approached. I knew few things and the movie didn't add much more. A couple of concepts i think it's important,(for me,thats my blog) to report
1-we both agree that love is narcissistic and it s pretty easy to understand why.
2-derrida,as a jewish child in algeria in the '40s,experienced the isolation from the the world that sorrounded him and at the same time didn't feel at ease inside the jewish community.(...)

Hier he visto una buena pelicula sobre la historia de el trafico de drogas entre estados unidos y sobre todo colombia en los anos 70 y80.No hay muchas palabras a adjutar,salvo que la miami que nosotros conocemos es construida con el dinero de esos traficos.mi consejo es de veerlo.
